Manufacturing robots have to operate reliably and safely. Fraunhofer ESK is working on ways to analyze and monitor open source robot operating systems (ROS) in real-time in order to optimize production system robots. Fraunhofer ESK’s DANA analysis framework offers the opportunity to compare the actual behavior of the ROS-based application to a model-based target behavior.

This screencast shows how to use DANA to create test cases from a behavior model, to generate a trace from a test case and to verify a trace with the behavior model. Thereby, if one model generates traces and another verifies them, it is possible to check that all behavior contained in former model also included in the latter.

This screencast demonstrates how DANA can be used to find and inspect anomalies in live and recorded communication traces. After detecting an anomaly, DANA continues verification and reports all detectable deviations, e.g., unexpected, missing and malformed messages as well as violations of timing requirements.

Within the EU-funded project SafeAdapt (Safe Adaptive Software for Fully Electric Vehicles), a consortium of 9 partners from six European countries is making innovative changes to the E/E architecture. These concepts will reduce the complexity of the system by generic, system-wide fault and adaptation handling.
