The Fraunhofer ESK operates a comprehensive DSL & Access Test Lab, which is continually expanded with new capabilities. The latest addition is a residential home test network. The lab facilitates a wide range of tests
using various devices – from telephones, PCs, and set top boxes to IADs and modems – and systems including subscriber access lines, access and aggregation networks and servers for video, voice or data applications.
Thanks to its modular structure, the option exists to use this platform as a system to evaluate new services and
solutions. It can also be used to test individual system components and is expandable so that additional components
and tests can be added when needed. In addition to analyzing DSL system interoperability and performance characteristics, the lab also focuses on
testing spectral compatibility and new communications features such as ADSL2+ L2 power mode. In 2007, the
lab was enhanced with the addition of a VDSL2 system. The existing access test network was also expanded to
include a residential test network. With this network, which replicates the inhouse wiring of a four-story, multiple
dwelling residence with 16 apartments, engineers can carry out measurement tests under environmental conditions
typically found in a home or residence.

The Fraunhofer ESK Automotive Lab offers manufacturers and suppliers a comprehensive platform and set of tools to support design and development projects. The lab serves as a foundation for researchers and engineers to work on the latest development methods in the fields of automotive networks, infotainment systems, driver assistance systems and automotive software design. The lab is an ideal environment for automotive manufacturers and suppliers to further develop their own engineering methods while integrating the latest research findings. Model-based tools such as ESK's own CAMoS framework is one example. This platform is an end-to-end tool that covers each phase of design from specification, simulation and prototyping, to code generation and testing. ESK's ARTiS platform illustrates another example. This system facilitates the rapid ECU prototyping of new, innovative functions. The results can be integrated in a production-like test environment within the lab, such as in an ECU test rack, and then tested. ARTiS is also flexible enough to be deployed in prototype vehicles or as part of a customer field trial. Conformance tests for bus technologies and communications protocols such as TCP/IP and MOST can be conducted in the lab to accompany the development process. This can be accomplished either supplemental to an existing project or on a standalone basis.

With a variety of demonstrators, the Enterprise Communications Lab provides a comprehensive overview of the latest
developments in the area of corporate network solutions. Of particular interest is the lab's current involvement in evaluating fixed mobile convergence solutions (in a dual mode test environment for instance). By using reference installations, researchers and engineers examine and verify the practical application of present-day solutions with a focus on system and end-user device usability and data security. The lab tests customer-installed systems under the framework of various scenarios, in particular: Systems and location networking,
home office communications, wireless office (enterprise and provider solutions) Communications systems
(hybrid systems, native VoIP, Unified Communications) Applications (CTI, Unified Messaging
Systems, presence management) Mobile voice and data communications
(synchronization, national/international access concepts, end-user devices) Security solutions for mobile end-user
devices Security solutions for fixed network
voice communications Tariffing/billing (fixed and mobile net
works, wireless hotspots)
