The organic computing research area focuses on the design and implementation of “Self-X” systems: self-configuring, self-optimizing, self-healing, self-protecting, self-describing. These systems, as described in the vision of ubiquitous computing, are an essential prerequisite for a world in which all things are networked. In this field, the focal point of our research is ambient office communications. And here our researchers have delved into several new aspects including middleware, security, ad hoc networking and intuitive communications devices. The Fraunhofer ESK works closely with the University of Augsburg in this field of research.
